Description

Consumption of fruits and vegetables (FV) in Vietnam and Nigeria are below the WHO recommendation of 400 g per day, mainly caused by low accessibility, affordability and/or acceptability of FV. The Fruits and Vegetables Intake in Vietnam and Nigeria project (FVN project) aimed to increase FV intake among urban populations in Vietnam and Nigeria by implementing three (3) nested interventions addressing accessibility (diverse retail-level innovations co-designed and implemented by small-scale FV (in)formal vendors), affordability (a client-specific coupon system), and acceptability (promotional campaigns about the importance of eating FV daily), implemented over a 12-month period in 2020/2021 in purposely selected low-income urban and peri-urban areas in Hanoi and Ibadan. The side event will present the design and findings of the three interventions separately and the combined effect on FV intake, followed by a discussion of the implications of these.
