Full Title
Innovative technologies for data collection in agri-nutrition research: Opportunities and challenges
Session Overview
Agriculture projects can have positive or negative impacts on maternal and infant well-being, depending on consequences on women’s workload and time for childcare, leisure activities and personal care, and on the accessibility, affordability and utilisation of nutritious foods. Existing time use and dietary assessment tools are generally either resource intensive (direct observation) or subject to error and bias (mother recall). The session introduces 2 innovative time use and dietary assessment tools: (1) Image-Assisted Recall (IAR) using Life-logging GPS-linked wearable cameras (2) Computerised Interactive Voice Response Diaries (IVR). We discuss the experience of trialling the tools with rural women in Eastern Uganda.
