Full Title
Managing trade-offs: Methods and Tools for Policy Decision-Making
Session Overview
The leveraging of agriculture-food systems for improved health requires cross-disciplinary activity at all levels. The complexity of the system makes informed decision-making difficult. This session will explore two techniques used to improve decision-making:
1. The use of a decision tree as a tool to explore safe, efficient and ethical livestock & aquaculture production in resource-poor settings, incorporating their contribution to sustainable nutrition and financial security; and
2. 'Collaborate', a participatory game developed to illustrate challenges within sustainable food system and to help formulate appropriate solutions.
Participants will discuss how these tools can be applied to complex problems and help produce solutions.
Learning Objectives/Outcomes
To introduce a Chatham House-developed decision tree that helps to better inform decision-makers as they aim to improve health by better nutrition through sustainable production of livestock & aquaculture:
1. The process of the decision tree development
2. Why the decision tree is a suitable solution
3. Possible applications
To introduce the 'Collaborate' game developed by ANH Academy:
1. Why it suits the sustainable diet conundrum
2. How it is played
3. Other applications
To discuss how these techniques can be applied in different settings and for different context, and, if time permits, developing ideas for proposals for future activities.
