Full Title
Measuring empowerment in nutrition-sensitive agricultural development projects using Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) & Women’s Empowerment in Livestock Index (WELI)
Session Overview
Gender plays an essential role in agriculture and nutrition research. Gender roles can determine who raises which crops and animals, how resources are allocated, and who can access food and healthcare. This session will introduce participants to the agriculture-nutrition pathways – a framework for understanding how agricultural production is related to nutrition and health outcomes – and how they can be used to integrate gender into nutrition-sensitive agriculture research. Participants will discuss how gender fits into their own research questions and will be introduced to a variety of tools and resources useful for gender research. Participants will also hear and discuss case studies of how gender has been integrated into 2-3 ongoing nutrition-sensitive agricultural development projects in South Asia.
