Harnessing peer learning, collective decision-making, problem solving and solidarity through participatory approaches
Session Overview
The session aims to give an overview of the methods and processes of evidence based participatory community capacity building interventions that aims to develop the problem solving skills through a series of structured monthly meetings and video disseminations. Participants will have a first-hand experience of the interactive methods and activities through simulated meetings and video disseminations to identify and prioritize problems, link the causes to the problems and find strategies to address them through story-telling sessions; understand the implementation process and the process of video making. The session will help the participants to be able to address a range of issues through these participatory approaches.
Learning Objectives/Outcomes
Participants will:
1. Be exposed to a mobilisation process which has structured monthly meetings designed to improve problem-solving skills of the community.
2. Be able to design a participatory approach that is not didactic but circular and respects the knowledge of the people and builds upon it to address issues relating to health, nutrition, gender based violence and agriculture.

The session is open to participants from the development sector, academicians, researchers, community-based workers and students interested in knowing about and/or designing structured participatory interventions.
