Introductory Workshop on Systematic Reviews and Evidence and Gap Maps
Session Overview
The use of systematic reviews and evidence and gap maps can be conducted across variety of types of questions and for all topic areas. Questions to be analyzed may include: What is the extent of the problem? Which risk and protective factors are associated with specific conditions? How acceptable are certain interventions in different populations? Which interventions have been rigorously evaluated with what results? What works best, for whom, under what conditions, and what cost? The use of Evidence and Gap Maps can be conducted across: how much evidence is available in a particular sector and where are the gaps in evidence?
Learning Objectives/Outcomes
The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to systematic review methodology and Evidence and Gap Map (EGM) in agriculture sector and social science. The course will use a combination of lectures, group work and practical sessions to introduce the following topics:
1. Introduction to systematic reviews and Evidence and Gap Maps (EGM): Overview lecture that introduces key concepts and examples
o Developing the review question
o Literature searching:
o Study selection/data extraction
o Quality assessment & critical appraisal of primary studies
2. Evidence resources
Target Audience
Researchers conducting scoping studies, systematic reviews and/or impact evaluations, and users wanting to understand approaches to evidence mapping. The session will also be useful for individuals and organisation which propagate evidence-based policy agenda.

Any level. Participants must bring their own laptops for computer exercises.
