How to book an accommodation in Lilongwe for ANH2023 

The ANH Academy has a list of recommended hotels which are listed on a dedicated portal managed by our event management company. Please note that you will now need to book for these directly because the booking arrangements we had with these hotels have now closed.  

You can also search online for hotels and lodges in Lilongwe - please note the address of ANH2023 venue for your booking search:  Address: Umodzi Park, Chilembwe, Lilongwe, Malawi. 


COVID-19 requirement for entering Malawi 

The Malawian Government lifts mandatory COVID-19 requirements 

With effect from 5 June 2023, The Presidential Task Force has confirmed that a COVID-19 vaccination certificate or a negative COVID-19 PCR test result will no longer be a mandatory requirement for entry/exit into and out of Malawi for all travellers.  However, all outgoing travellers should be responsible for checking and complying with entry requirements in the countries of their destination and or transit. 


When will the registration for ANH2023 open?

Registration for ANH2023 opened on 15 February 2023. 

Before you register, you will need to make sure you are logged in to your ANH Academy account, and that you update your profile with the latest information. If you are not yet a member, sign up here (FREE). Register here.


How much are the registration fees for ANH2023?

Online access to ANH2023 is FREE to all. 

You will need to be logged in to your ANH Academy account to access conference resources (also FREE). 

In person participation for ANH2023 is FREE for almost all Malawians. For all others we will charge a modest fee to contribute to the cost of arranging the event with different rates based on region. 

If your organisation is well-resourced and would like to support the event we have put together some ways you may like to contribute


When will the call for abstracts open and when will it close?

The call for abstracts for the research conference closed on 11th December 2022

You can find oral and poster presentations from previous virtual conferences in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and in-person events in 2017, 2018 and 2019


Are there guidelines for presentations?

Guidelines for oral and poster presenters have been emailed to all successful presenters. For poster presenters, we will share information about local printers in Lilongwe soon, in case you would like to pre-arrange for your poster to be printer in situ. You can click on the guidelines below:


Where can I print my poster in Lilongwe for ANH2023

You can contact any of the following providers. Please note that the ANH Academy Team will not cover costs for printing. We advise you make direct contact with the provider.      


Will ANH2023 be held in person?

The event will be hybrid this year, both online and in person in Lilongwe, Malawi.

The Learning Labs will be only online from 19 to 21 June 2023, and only in-person in Malawi on 26 June 2023.

The whole of the Research Conference, 27-30 June 2023, will be hosted both online and in-person. 

We will also be welcoming organisations that would like to host watch parties in different countries around the world. These will offer participants the opportunity to watch the Research Conference online but in-person.  Please see Watch Parties to learn more or find out how your organisation can host its own event, including the support we can offer.


Where will ANH2023 be held and what are the logistical arrangements?

The conference will be held at the Bingu Wa Mutharika International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Malawi.  More information on logistical information for travelling to Malawi can be found hereVisit this dedicated portal for more information on visa letters, accommodation, airport transfers and the ANH2023 venue. 


Where can I find information on the Learning Labs?

Learning Labs are a series of training sessions in interdisciplinary agriculture, nutrition and health research. You can watch videos from previous Learning Labs here

The deadline to submit proposals was 8 January 2023


Where can I find information on the Side Events?

Side Events are held during the research conference, there is no fixed format. You could use them as an opportunity to showcase your work, initiate topic-based discussions, stimulate new ideas, foster collaborations, networking or advocacy. You can watch videos from previous Side Events

The expression of interest to deliver Side Events was closed on 31 January 2023. 


How can I interact with others attending ANH2023?

Attendees will have the opportunity to interact in multiple ways online, including interactive plenary and parallel discussions, Learning Labs, poster viewing sessions and side events. You will also be able to browse attendees and connect via the ANH site. These features will be launched close to the event. In the meantime, please take a look at the conversation on Twitter using our hashtag  #ANH2023. Our Twitter handle is @ANH_Academy.

Members of the ANH-Academy are also able to privately message each other via their ANH Academy member profile page. 


Will sessions be live streamed from ANH2023?

All sessions, excluding the Learning Labs held on 26 June, will be streamed online to enable participants to join from anywhere in the world. We will also record the sessions and post them on the ANH2023 conference page each day.

How can I maximise my experience online on Zoom at ANH2023?

Join the session using the Zoom link located in the description of each programme. You need to be registered to ANH2023 to access the Zoom details. Once on Zoom, make sure to set your Zoom screen to full-screen mode to maximise the online zoom viewing.


Which sessions will be live translated into French, and will they be recorded?

The Plenary sessions and the Parallel Thematic sessions of the Research Conference (not Learning Labs) will be live translated into French. Poster presentations and side events will not be translated.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the translation function on Zoom, we have put together some basic guidelines:


I am bringing an infant to ANH2023, what facilities will be available?

Everyone is welcome at the ANH Academy Week. If you are travelling to Lilongwe with a baby or child and would like to bring them to the conference venue each day please contact us in advance so we can try to assist in any way. There will be a dedicated caregiving room for anyone who might like to use this, and we are exploring the potential to create a play area for infants. 

If you would like to connect with any other participants who are bringing infants - and are happy for your information to be shared - please also indicate this when you contact us at [email protected] 


Is there a prayer room at the conference site?

Yes, there will be a dedicated prayer room at the conference venue, close to the session halls.


How can I celebrate Eid al-Adha on 29 June?

Muslim participants of ANH2023 may like to know that Namaz will take place at Mosque Area 13 on the morning of 29 June, finishing before 09:00. The mosque has a women's prayer section. In addition to the Halal food served each day of the conference, a goat option will be served to mark Eid al-Adha on 29 June. Eid Mubarak!

Please bring extra praying mats as the Eid prayer shall be performed both inside and outside the masjid.
