Description:
This learning lab engages participants in exploring a qualitative, participatory systems method called group model building (GMB). It is set in the context of the current IMMANA Clove project on ‘Complex systems methods to analyse informal food safety nets in Lebanon’. We have had to adapt our data collection to online GMB and will be sharing this method. We will first introduce systems thinking as a useful approach in food systems research. We will then provide a brief overview of applying systems thinking, by describing group model building, a participatory qualitative system method. We will include examples of where and how it has been used to investigate complex food systems questions and will do a brief demonstration of online group model building. Finally – having asked participants to come prepared with a research question which could be addressed (fully or in part) by conducting group model building – we will work through some of their questions.
