Open Full Event Learning Lab: Beyond the theory of food systems: stakeholder interaction methods to identify top 3 food system issues and demand-driven solutions

Level: Introductory

Description:

Food systems are dynamic and transitioning quickly as observed during the Covid-19 pandemic. There is need to make food systems healthier, more resilient and inclusive of the poor to ensure sustainability and healthy diets for all.

To start, a peri-urban food system in Vietnam will be presented and key challenges identified. This is followed by a role-play whereby the audience will become stakeholders- relying on fact sheets. The role-play simulates a stakeholder meeting prioritizing top 3 local food system issues and identifying possible demand-based actions, interventions, or local policy for local contexts. The role-play experience will be discussed and similarities/ differences with the Addis Ababa and Kampala food systems will be brought into the discussion.

The lab offers learning opportunities on interactions with different policymakers, practitioners, researchers, farmers, traders, etc.. The methodology includes a food-systems-actor-mapping guideline as well as a scoring tool to identify the top 3 solutions per food system issue from key informant interviews.
