This month's Research Roundtable will feature a presentation from community members Jess Wallingford, Gbenga Sadik, and Rachel Gilbert, who are team members on the Food Prices for Nutrition project. A description of the presentation topic is below:
Cost and affordability of healthy diets: Insights from global monitoring and country-level analysis in Nigeria
New Cost and Affordability of Healthy Diets (CoAHD) data were published simultaneously by FAO and the World Bank in July 2024, alongside the release of the 2024 UN system flagship report on The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI). We will present new analysis of these updated CoAHD data used in global monitoring, as well as country-level analysis of the Cost of a Healthy Diet (CoHD) in Nigeria. Country-level analysis will include a comparison of CoHD estimates using 2021 food price data from the World Bank’s International Comparison Program (ICP), as used to generate the CoHD estimates reported in the SOFI 2024, and CoHD estimates using national food price data from Nigeria, as reported in their bulletins. We will also compare CoHD estimates with average food prices and the food component of the consumer price index in Nigeria.
