IMMANA Fellows awarded under Round 3

IMMANA Round 3 Fellows come from a diversity of backgrounds – the group includes a nutritionist, an economist and a historian. Their projects, to be conducted in Africa or Asia over the next 12 months, focus on home gardens, history of pellagra, social networks and dietary diversity, among others.

IMMANA Round 3 Fellows:

Zeweter Abebe, Ethiopia, Ambo University: Impact of home gardening on breastmilk vitamin A composition and child vitamin A intake

Christopher R. Conz, USA, Boston University: (Un)Cultivating the Disease of Maize: a history of pellagra in Lesotho, southern Africa as a metric for rethinking agricultural policy

Aissatou Ouedraogo, Burkina Faso, Michigan State University: Social networks, production of micronutrient-rich foods, and child health outcomes in Burkina Faso

Anjali Rao, India, KEM Hospital Pune: Dietary diversity and its determinants among rural adolescents from Pune, India

Thalia Sparling, US, Heidelberg University: New implementation indicators to measure delivery and uptake of nutrition-sensitive agriculture programs

'One of my long-term career goals is to contribute to developing efficient and inclusive development policies for small-scale farmers enacted through evidence-based research. I hope to use my project, which requires the application of innovative methods and metrics, to strengthen my analytical and technical skills. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to share my work with and learn from experienced researchers through the Agriculture, Nutrition and Health (ANH) Academy, and to pursue my personal and professional goals of improving livelihoods in rural communities.' - said IMMANA Fellow Aissatou Ouedraogo.
