Bio

Dr. Safdar currently works as an Associate Professor for the School of Public Health, Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi, Pakistan. She has more than 35 years of experience in Nutritional Sciences. She is a Nutritionist, Clinical Dietitian, academician and community-based participatory researcher, trained in public health, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Food & Nutrition. She has a PhD in Public Health Nutrition & a Masters in Clinical Nutrition & Fellowship in International Nutrition from the USA.   Recipient of Fulbright Scholarship, Hubert Humphrey Fellowship, Australia Awards, and Omega Public Health Excellence award.  Established the first-ever Food & Nutrition Department in Pakistan at Aga Khan University in the 1980s. Later on, moved to academia and initiated the first undergraduate & graduate degree program in Nutrition in Sind province in 2015. Was the founding member of the Pakistan Nutrition & Dietetic Society. At the national level, she has served on various task force committees for the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) ‘programs including; Food Based Dietary Guidelines for Pakistani Population, National Fortification Alliance, Scaling up Nutrition Research & Academia (SUNAR), Fill the Nutrient Gap (FNG), Adolescent Health and other groups of SUN Pakistan initiatives. Have received grants from GAIN International, DFAT, British Council, HEC & Australian Govt to conduct community-based projects & research. Has authored more than 25 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and also serves as a member of the editorial board of National & International journals.
