Bio

I am a nutritional epidemiologist whose research focuses on developing and scaling-up tools, methods, and coordinated institutional capacity for conducting population nutrition surveys in low- and middle-income countries, with emphasis on dietary assessment, quantitative methods, and exploratory (hypothesis-generating) approaches. My second area of interest involves environmental nutrition, studying relationships between human nutrition and the environment (generalized to include natural and food environments) and nutritional ecology (the flow of nutrients between ecological media) at multiple geospatial and ecological scales.

I have 10+ years of post-masters experience and have conducted and directed 6+ years of in-country international research with universities, research centers, and NGOs in Mongolia, Bangladesh, and Thailand where I gained experience managing research programs, organizing international conferences and workshops; educating diverse audiences in theoretical and applied concepts in nutritional epidemiology and research dietetics; and conducting high-level policy advocacy. I have led or co-led preparation of grant proposals that have collectively provided 2.1 million USD in funding, published 56 peer-reviewed research articles or reviews, and have conducted trainings or supervision for approximately 400 students, researchers, and professionals.

I am primarily affiliated as a Researcher in the Community Nutrition Unit at the Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University (INMU), and am also a Member of Mahidol University’s Global Talent Program. I am secondarily affiliated as a Research Associate in the Department of Nutrition and an NIH Fogarty Global Health Fellow in the Department of Global Health & Population at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. I am passionate about developing partnerships for research and academic exchange at INMU, and welcome opportunities from interested collaborators.

I received a BA in Chemistry from New York University, MPH in International Health / Epidemiology from the University of Michigan, Doctor of Science in Nutrition from Harvard University funded by an NIH National Research Service Award, and postdoctoral training at Harvard funded by NIH and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. As a doctoral student, I trained over 200 students to assess diet across Mongolia and successfully advocated for expansion of the country’s food fortification law. As a postdoc, I directed a 2-year project that produced the Global Diet Quality Score (GDQS). I was nominated for full membership in Sigma Xi in 2021.
