Welcome to the side-event on a Right to Food and Nutrition with policy experts, researchers, and practitioners working on the Right to Food! Please use this space to engage in human rights conversation before/after the event.
Before June 29: Please post one or two burning questions about a right to food and nutrition, that presenters can address during the event.
After June 29: Organizers will share ways for continued interaction and collaboration on this topic.
Thank you so much for hosting this side event. I'm very interested in this topic! I have a couple questions...
1. How would a right to food or nutrition fit into a network of other human rights? Could the right to food embed into the right to adequate living standards? Could the right to nutrition dovetail with health?
2. How do personal preferences fit into this right, especially if they might impact global crises? Does this include HICs and red meat consumption?

What role can legally binding International treaties play to ensure people the right to adequate food for all? Article 2.1 from The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights outlines the requirement for international cooperation, particularly when states cannot ensure the right to food for their people. The periodic reviews have not focused on International cooperation as a legally binding accountability framework, taking aid from moral duty to legal obligation.
The fulfilment of the Right to Food remains a contested issue and the political economy that's informing our efforts at food systems transformation is riddled with power imbalances. In the absence of broad-based political constituencies of support how are we grappling with the fact that the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation funds the ANH. How do we talk about the RtF when funded by one of the biggest forces pushing the neocolonial green revolution agenda in Africa, with dire consequences.
