The 9th annual Agriculture, Nutrition, and Health (ANH) Academy Week took place from 17 - 20 June 2024 and featured an online programme of Learning Labs. Additionally, ANH Academy will collaborate with a small number of regional events across the year.
Background
Between 2016 and 2019, the ANH Academy Week was held in person, rotating between African and Asian countries in order to lower barriers to participation. In 2020 and 2021 the event took place entirely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while in 2022, Academy Week trialled hybrid sessions for the first time with co-hosts in South Africa. In 2023 this transition continued into a fully hybrid format from Lilongwe, Malawi.
The 9th annual ANH Academy Week programme featured Learning Labs (training workshops) offered by ANH Academy partners and the participation of regional events across the year. For more information on ANH Academy Weeks, you are invited to visit our Academy Week web pages and to view the reports on our 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 meetings in Africa, Asia, and online.
Rationale for an online ANH2024
ANH Academy offers a wide range of activities outside of the conference itself. These include launching a new round of the successful mentoring scheme; and an exciting Curriculum Enrichment Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme, the launch of Research Communities, in addition to activities within many other initiatives such as technical working groups, the Support Centre for Agriculture and Nutrition (SCANR), as well as special events, webinars, and blogs hosted through the online platform for knowledge exchange.
In order to leave space for reflection and to prioritise these important community activities, the 2024 ANH Academy Week took on a different shape. Rather than planning a full two-week hybrid event, we curated a dynamic online programme of high-quality Learning Labs. And instead of running a standalone conference, we partnered with and are supporting a small number of regional events.
This approach, we hope, will retain the strong emphasis on learning and sharing while also facilitating opportunities for interaction and engagement among members. Together, we know that these are of critical importance to the ANH community. Stay tuned for more information about what will be on offer in 2024 and expect a return to the full event in 2025.
