Description:
Evidence suggests that many Dietitians and Nutritionists (D/Ns) are not encouraged to apply a food systems perspective within their practice; much less a sustainable food systems perspective. In response to this reality, members of the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations (ICDA) developed an online sustainable food systems (SFS) toolkit to help D/Ns integrate SFS into their practice within a variety of settings; including health care, schools, communities, government, and education. With support and contribution from over 70 D/Ns from around the world, the toolkit launched in 2021 and is continually evolving.
This session briefly describes the SFS toolkit, introducing the learning modules, resources, and community of practice. The bulk of our time will be spent using the toolkit together. We will demonstrate its applicability to different settings, and discuss the impact it is having on dietitians, nutritionists, and populations we work with. We will close with discussion on ways that you can contribute to the toolkit so that it evolves to best fit your nutrition practice and personal needs. It is a toolkit for nutrition professionals by nutrition professionals!
